Olympics a Prime Target

The 2024 Paris Olympics has faced multiple security threats.

It comes as no surprise that great event also creates a platform for some nefarious parties…

Strike 1 – Rail Infrastructure

Mere hours before the opening ceremony, the rail network was disrupted by arson.

According to ABC (HERE), as many as 800,000 people were impacted by the outage.

Trackside signal boxes were set on fire and cables on the lines had been cut.

The rail operator increased security along all lines with 1,000 workers and 50 drones (HERE).

 

Strike 2 – Fiber Optic Cables

On Monday it was reported that cables in several regions of France were cut overnight.

The impacted telecommunications providers include SFR, Bouygues and Free.

Orange, the telecom provider for the Paris Games, was not affected in the attack.

In Summary

These attacks underscore the security threats around the Paris Olympic Games.

Despite partnering with major technology providers, there remains significant risk according to the WEF.
