Nullbulge Hack Disney’s Slack

by | Jul 17, 2024

Disney’s Slack channels were hacked, exposing sensitive company information.

According to CNN, the hacker group “Nullbulge” leaked internal conversations and details about future projects.

Why Disney?

The group claimed artist contracts, and its approach to AI as its motivation.

According to the BBC, the group wanted Disney to stop using AI altogether…

Despite Disney’s circa $88 billion dollars revenue in 2023, the group made no extortion demands.

Nullbulge motives

The hacktivist group’s website states its objective as

“to protect the rights and livelihoods of artists in the digital age”

Given that they believe AI-generated artwork harms the creative industry, and should be discouraged.

The World Economic Forum’s perspective on this subject can be found HERE.

How did they get in?

The BBC indicated that Nullbulge got into Disney’s internal Slack messaging system through an insider. However, Vulture listed a trojan horse as first-time exploit method HERE.

Disney responded quickly, enhancing security and cooperating with authorities.

This breach highlights the constant threat to corporate communications.
