Namibia 2024 National ICT Summit

by | Sep 10, 2024

As a guest of www.onix.digital, we have been attending the 8th National ICT Summit in Namibia, which has emphasised the nation’s readiness for the digital age.

Minister Emma Theofelus, addressing the summit, highlighted Namibia’s ninth-place ranking in AI preparedness in Africa.

During the summit (www.ictsummit.gov.na), she also outlined challenges in digital literacy and data protection and advocated for collaborations between the government and private sectors. She also touched on the Data Protection Draft Bill, which introduced a framework to safeguard personal data.

It proposes a supervisory authority to regulate data processing, ensuring privacy rights while supporting the country’s broader goal of digital transformation.

This summit and the bill signal Namibia’s forward-thinking approach to digital challenges, and bodes well for the development of the digital economy in this beautiful country.
