by | Aug 5, 2024

What is going on?

The U.S. is suing TikTok for collecting data on children under 13 without consent; see HERE.

HERE the FTC claims TikTok violated children’s privacy laws by gathering their personal information.

What is the Risk to Whom?

Children under 13 are at risk because this personal data is collected without permission:

  • device information,
  • usage information
  • location data,
  • social media account information,
  • profile image(s),
  • data from cookies and other tracking technologies,
  • photographs, videos, and audio files containing the user’s image and voice.

Why is This Important?

This lawsuit is crucial for protecting children’s privacy and ensuring their online safety.

What Can ‘Normal’ People Do?

Parents should monitor their children’s app usage and understand privacy settings.

Consider Kid-Safe Browsers and Search Sites

Use only apps that prioritise user protection and offer sufficient privacy.
